Tyson embodies the golden age of boxing when heavyweight champions were seen as larger-than-life characters whose fights captivated the globe.
His legacy serves as a reminder of the sport's rich history, as well as the lasting impact that a single athlete may have on its culture.
“You’ve never seen a guy that young and with that much power, everyone was in disbelief,” explained Paul Upham, Australian boxing journalist.
"Watching him train, the speed and punching power was stunning. Made everyone realise that we have to watch this guy fight,"
In contrast, Paul is a global social media sensation, boasting no less than 27 million followers on Instagram thanks to his provocative and sensational appeal.
The 28 year old has tried his hand at wrestling, acting and boxing and has an older brother called Logan who has also accumulated a huge social media following.
Tyson and Paul will attract two large, different demographics of sports fans.
It’s also sign of things to come, as the global streaming giant makes its first foray into the world of live sport, after trying its hand at documentaries.
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul bring together sporting ability, digital impact, and cultural significance.
“This is the new wave of boxing,” said Upham
